I am a full-time practicing Pediatrician in Hot Spring, Arkansas. I have been a member of medical teams in Honduras and Peru, but since 2006 have been exclusively dedicating my time overseas to Kenya Relief.  I have heretofore never been involved with a group having such an explosive impact upon the health needs of a community.  I have served on three Kenya Relief medical teams and led two more of them.  Kenya is a country ravaged by poverty, hunger, disease, and lack of potable water.  Aids claims thousands of lives annually and Malaria, many more. In the few years since its inception Kenya Relief, has provided potable water to thousands, supplied relief for the hungry, operates an orphanage caring for 116 children, and built a state of the art medical clinic that not only enables General Medical and Pediatric care but now also contains cutting edge operating suites in which cataract, gynecologic, and general surgical cases are being performed.  Steve James is the visionary force behind the organization and the hope generated by what has been done is visible in the eyes of the children and adult patients who have been cared for in the clinic and in the smiles on faces of orphans who now have the security of a home that provides far more than basic needs.  They are loved.  I encourage you to avail yourself of the opportunity to join me in September 2010 or one of the other team leaders if your calendar for September is full.  Join us in alleviating some of the suffering that these beautiful people now needlessly endure.  I have been forever changed by participating in this work and in so doing have received far more than I have given.  Step out of your comfort zone. In Kenya the need for medical care is overwhelming. Kenya Relief and its supporters have vowed to make a difference. Kenya Relief currently sends about 10 teams per year and each medical team has been able to see on average of 1,000 patients per team. So far each team has been able to deliver free medical care and prescriptions to the many in need. The average cost endured by Kenya Relief is currently $5.00 per patient. This could not be possible without the help of many people just like you. It’s hard to imagine that you could possibly save a life for less money than it would cost you to see a movie or eat out.
